Background

Tristan Quoris was returning leisurely to his ancestral estate. The shot boar was swaying rhythmically on the back of the groomed steed, which quickened its pace slightly, sensing the approach of rest.

The young hunter's mind wandered lazily through past and upcoming events. His father had arranged another reception where his friends and allies - hypocrites and flatterers all of them - had gathered. The Baron de Quoris had managed to involve his older sons in the organization of the event, but Tristan had fortunately managed to slip away from the estate in time to avoid being seen by his father. He wondered if his younger sister had also been made to entertain the guests? His mentor had taught her to play the flute beautifully, as if in contrast to usually leaving Tristan with with some political tedium.

A worrying snort from the horse snapped young Quoris out of his thoughts. A column of thick black smoke was rising above the estate.

The sight of the ruined house was deeply etched in Tristan's memory. Even two years later, the bloody splatters on the floor and walls and the smell of burnt flesh haunted the dreams of the only surviving Quoris. The Inquisition knew their job well. Irrefutable evidence of sorcery and resistance at the time of arrest (according to the report) allowed the punitive squad to play the role of judge and executioner. The lineage of the Baron de Quoris was officially erased from the royal genealogy, as if it had never existed, and the property and lands went to the Crown.

Left alone and without means of subsistence, the former nobleman, now known as T'lis, turned to what he did best - archery. Starting with hunting and exhibition performances at fairs, T'lis quickly realized that people were the most valuable prey.

After completing another contract, the newly minted bounty hunter learned that the Inquisition was once again recruiting volunteers. This gave T'lis an idea. By joining the ranks of the Inquisition and rising high enough in the hierarchy, he could find out who was behind the destruction of his lineage and who provided them with "irrefutable evidence".
